Cornea Transplant

Cornial Transplant

The cornea is the transparent part of the eye that lies between the eye lids with your eyes open.

Injury to the corneal result is scar formation and loss of sight. The cornea is vulnerable to complications as a result of self medication without proper prescription by a trained eye specialist or health worker e.g. eye drops.

It is now possible to cut away a scarred cornea and replace it with a donor cornea (cornea transplant) resulting in restoration of sight.

There is no cornea donation service available locally and all cornea tissue is imported from cornea banks in the USA of Asia.

This service is available at UHEAL using cornea tissue imported from the USA.

You should visit an Eye Specialist once per year for routine checkup. For more information Contact Upper Hill Eye & Laser Centre (UHEAL) Nairobi Kenya or any other eye specialist near you.
